To Go Or Not To Go

2020 has been a year full of ups and downs and COVID-19 has not made it any easier. With school right around the corner for most parents, another decision had to be made: "Should kids go to school, or stay home?" I've had this conversation with a lot of my mom friends, and they've all said the same thing, they aren't comfortable sending their kids back to school, and they'd rather them stay home with them. This is a common consensus not only with my friends, but other mom's as well. They would rather be at home with their children, working at home if they can, than to risk their kids getting sick. Especially since this is already happening in colleges and universities around the country.

My daughter attends daycare and has been since this whole thing began. There was one Coronavirus scare in April or May and the daycare notified us, then it was business as usual. Then a week or two ago there was another COVID-19 scare. A child came to the daycare and was later confirmed to have Coronavirus over the weekend. The week before they were playing with the other children, while wearing a mask. Guidelines have now changed, and now my daughter has to quarantine at home with me for 14 days, and I am extremely happy she is showing no symptoms. She is the same bubbly, happy, healthy little girl that she's always been.

Even with this scare at my daughter's daycare will I continue to send her? The answer may not be what some people want to read, but yes I will continue to send her to daycare. Will I take precautions? Always. I make sure she washes her hands as soon as she comes in the house and I also clean off all surfaces she touches and the bathroom she uses. Will I keep her home sometimes? Yes, I will continue to do this as well. With the daycare's new restrictions, they are now requiring kids to be there most of the time, in turn giving parents like myself, who work from home and would prefer to have my daughter home with me sometimes, a hard time. Regardless, I would prefer to keep her home with me sometimes, instead of constantly sending her to daycare. The daycare has made multiple changes to adjust to the students needs and to protect students and themselves. They are requiring children to wear masks and taking children's temperature at the door as well as not allowing parents to walk their children to their classrooms. They've even restricted the amount of children that can enter the daycare to prevent overcrowded classrooms.

With all these changes and requirements and rules for daycares, schools, and jobs trying to adjust to life in Coronavirus season will be something I hope we can adapt to quickly so our kids can continue to grow and learn.
