Anyone who knows a single mom knows she wears multiple hats. Mother, employee, entrepreneur, student, cook, maid, therapist, etc. We barely stop to take a breath, let alone stop to take care of ourselves and one of the questions I always get is, "How do you do it?"
How do I keep going and going, helping my daughter on her homework, working and being on call, managing all the social media posts, blog posts, meetings and future moves of my first business, especially as a single mom? I answer the same way every time.
Because I have to.
As a single mom there isn't much time for breaks. There are dishes that need to be done, homework that needs to be completed, tests to study for, work projects to complete and everything can come apart in one day and we just have to figure it out. Working from home helps, but it's in no way easy. I want my daughter to grow up without worrying about financial burdens. And like so many other moms and single parents, we work and work so that we can provide everything we can for our kids, so they can have the best.
With all that said there are some things that help me getting done everything I need to get done.
Making a to do list for the day/week and updating it.
Schedule out what you plan to get done in a day and actually doing it.
Meal prepping is cute, but making big meals that can last 2-3 days is better or at least knowing what you're going to make for most of the week.
Plan activities for your babies in addition to screen time.
Heavily budget and have multiple savings accounts.
Let there be room for error. Getting everything together is a lifestyle, not a quick fix. Make room for the weeks you get pizza and wings instead of cooking, and the times where you want to treat yourself and your kids and go over budget.
Lastly, lean on people when you need help. Being a mom is overwhelming. There is a never ending list of things to get done and when you're doing it alone it can feel impossible. Remember if there are people that offer you help that you can trust and rely on, take it!
I love being a mom with everything in me and regardless of how hard it is, I wouldn't change that for the world.
